Fadzliaton Zainudin is the Assistant Director of the Educational Technology Division, Ministry of Education Malaysia. She is currently actively participating in the stabilization and consolidation phase (2010 – 2020) of the Smart Schools initiative, one of the flagships of the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC). She plays an important role in the development, management, monitoring and evaluation of the ”Making All Schools Smart” initiative which involves more than 10,000 schools in Malaysia.
Before joining the Smart School Sector as the Head of Unit in 2014, she headed the Change Management Unit which saw her involvement in the capacity and competency building of more than 2,800 educational technology officers and staff as well as 20,000 teacher-librarians and ICT Coordinators all over Malaysia. She was also the Head of School Resource Centre Unit and passionately involved in the transformation the School Resource Centre into students’ information hub in line with IFLA/UNESCO School Library Manifesto, to all schools in Malaysia. She was also instrumental in the setting up, development and management of digital resources for digital library, information literacy and NILAM programme; a well-structured nationwide reading programme for Malaysian students since 2006. She also gave her contributions internationally through paper presentations in the 2008, 2010 and 2012 International Association of School Librarianship (IASL) conferences.
Prior to joining the Educational Technology Division in 2006, Ms. Zainudin taught English as a Second Language (ESL) and Literature at two secondary schools in Selangor, Malaysia. She also held position as the Head of English Department besides being in-charge of the School Resource Centre as the Teacher-Librarian and played active roles at the school, district and state levels. She also had experiences as the English Language examiner for Malaysia Certificate of Education (SPM) and the Quality Control officer for the Form Three English Language textbook.
Ms. Zainudin graduated from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio, USA, a private world class research university, with a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Economics and a minor in Management, sponsored by the Government of Malaysia under the Oxbridge / Ivy League Programme, in 1991. Upon graduation, she joined the capital market industry and was later appointed as the Division Manager at a participating organization of the Malaysia Futures Exchange. Later, in 1996, she took a Diploma in Education at the Specialists Teacher’s Training Institute (MPIK), concentrating on the English as a Second Language (ESL) and Literature, which was the turning point towards her current field of expertise in education. She also holds a Diploma in Translation from Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka, to enrich herself and immerse the knowledge in her day-to-day job functions.
She is ablaze about school library and educational technology. Hence, this portal acts as an extension of her work which she’d like to share with those of the same interests, especially in school library advocacy and she hopes that the contents are beneficial to teachers and students alike.
